Convolution of conveyor belts

What are conveyor belts used for?

To fully understand the role of conveyor belts, we must first look at the conveyors themselves. Belt conveyors are mainly used for transporting small and bulk materials. We can find them in: sorting plants, mines, warehouses, and various manufacturing plants, among others. It is precisely thanks to the belt that goods are transported on the conveyor.

What is a conveyor belt?

Currently, we have many types of conveyors available, but the most popular one by far remains the conveyor belt variant, joined in loops and supported by rollers. The belt is set in motion by the conveyor's drive drum, which is often powered by an electric motor. When working with conveyor belts, it is important to monitor their operation and, if necessary, repair them. One servicing method is Conveyor belt bonding and vulcanization, which guarantees the optimization of the conveyor's operation.

Types of tapes and their uses

The most common and widespread type is the general-purpose conveyor belt. It is made from a combination of fabric and rubber. Such belts are used for transport when the ambient temperature ranges from -25 to +60°C. This type of belt can be found in almost every industry, from building material production through energy, to agriculture or the food industry.

The main variant of these belts is the belt with rubber profiles. This type of belt is used for transport at an angle relative to the horizontal axis. They function to prevent sudden sliding of items on the belt and even falling off it. They are most often used for transporting items that are loose and have a medium to large grain size.

It is worth emphasizing that universally applicable conveyor belts are found in various forms and are characterized by high resistance to various factors. On the other hand, flame-retardant and high-temperature resistant belts are used in smelters and fuel mines. In general, such places can be described as areas where there is a risk of explosion.

Oil-resistant belts (fabric-rubber) are used, as the name suggests, when transporting materials containing to some extent oil/grease compounds or organic solvents. In practice, these belts are mainly used in the secondary raw materials and energy industries, for example, for transporting municipal waste and biomass. Some building materials, such as phosphorite, clinker, or coke, are highly abrasive, so to preserve the transported items in an intact condition, wear-resistant conveyor belts are used.

There are many types of conveyor belts, and each is used depending on what product is being transported and its characteristics.
